Snus Snuff
Swedish Snus, snuff, chewing tobacco and bites
Snus is a genuine Swedish tobacco product that has been perfected over several hundred years. Snus is often mistaken for nasal snuff, tobacco bites and chewing tobacco,
but a part from being tobacco products they have very little in common. Snus is used orally just as chewing tobacco but you don’t chew snus. You just put it
under your upper lip. That snus is smokeless is no surprise to most people. But the fact that snus is also spitless comes as a surprise to a lot of people.
Tobacco product have been used for a very long time but I first came to Europe in the early 1500´s when Columbus, on his travels, met people that were
chewing and smoking tobacco plants. When the tobacco plant was brought to Europe it was treated a medicinal plant and used for medicinal purposes and not
recreational. It was the courts of Europe that first began to use tobacco in Europe. It was among the nobility that nasal snuff became popular. Tobacco was
only used by the wealthy at this time. But it became very fashionable to use snuff at this time. It became a sign of both class and wealth. It was not
until the end of the 1700´s that Swedes began to use snus orally. This kind of use was a kind of mixture between nasal snuff and chewing
tobacco. In the early years of the 1800´s Swedes started producing what we today recognize as Swedish snus.
